First Grade News - Ms. Costello
May 15th - May 19th, 2017
School starts every day at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM.
We will continue literacy stations. I am going to continue end of year benchmark testing for reading. Please be on the lookout for a half sheet of paper with your child’s reading level on it, as well as a full-sized paper with reading strategies/skills you can practice at home with your child. Benchmark testing may take up to a month to complete; generally speaking, I start testing the kids who are above level before I test more emergent readers (this may give you a general idea of when your child will be tested).
I will continue to pull select guided reading groups during this time.
For our literacy unit, we will read the book “From Caterpillar to Butterfly”, as well as a close read about the frog life cycle.
We will continue to practice using evidence from the text to answer questions, as well as retell the frog/butterfly life cycles.
Please practice the spelling words all week at home. Spelling test will be on Friday.
