First Grade News - Ms. Costello
May 22nd - May 26th, 2017 Reminders School starts every day at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they come to school with their glasses every day. There is a field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry on Friday, May 26th. Please send a bag lunch with your child, as we will be eating at the museum. Literacy We will continue literacy stations. I am done with reading testing, and Ms. Ruther still has one student to test. Please be on the lookout for a half sheet of paper with your child’s reading level on it, as well as a full-sized paper with reading strategies/skills you can practice at home with your child. I will continue to pull guided reading groups and focus on reading skills and strategies. For our literacy unit, we will read select stories from the book “Days with Frog and Toad”. We will continue to practice using evidence from the text to answer questions, as well as discuss character traits. Spelling/Phonics -ck (review) There are 9 words this week. Please practice the spelling words all week at home. We will monitor our ongoing plant experiment. Social Studies - We will continue our unit on maps. Writing - We will continue to work on our writing narratives, and discuss how to come up with titles for our stories. We will continue to talk about making revisions to our writing, using rubrics to assess our writing, and following writing conventions.
