First Grade News - Ms. Maziarka
May 1st - May 5th, 2017
School starts every day at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM.
Don’t forget - to be entered in the weekly attendance raffle, your child needs to be at school every day, AND on time (8 AM or earlier)!
There will be a Topic 11 math test and sight word test this week on words #146-155 . Last week’s words are on the back of the newsletter.
Our theater field trip is on Thursday, May 4th. Please send a lunch to school that day, as we will be eating lunch in the classroom when we return to school.
We will continue literacy stations. I will continue to pull guided reading groups and continue to focus on reading strategies and phonics in small groups.
For our literacy unit, we will continue to read fables. We will read “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, and talk about what a fable is and the moral/lesson of the fable, as well as identifying character traits. We will continue to practice using evidence from the text to answer questions, as well as retell the story including key details, and demonstrate understanding of its central message/lesson. We will also describe characters, settings, and major events in the story.
Spelling/Phonics –au -aw (-au as in “Paul” and -aw as in “raw”)
Please practice the spelling words all week at home. Spelling test will be on Friday.
