I can't believe that we are already heading in March! Time goes by so quickly when you're enjoying yourself and learning so many new things.
We are completing our Money unit in reading this week. Our last story, Uncle Jed's Barbershop, is about hard work, perseverance, and dreaming big! Throughout the unit we have been specifically working on identifying/distinguishing facts and opinions. Additionally, we have continued to analyze the main characters' traits. Please make sure that your child completes his or her nightly reading passages.
We are also wrapping up our science unit, The Properties of Water. We will be completing our evaporation investigations by Tuesday. After that we will put water to work for us! We will be making water wheels. Students will be given a container of specific supplies and they will work in cooperative groups to put those items together in order to make the water wind up a string.
Students are also enjoying our economics unit in social studies. This is the first year we are using the Money Island financial awareness program. Most students are nearing the half way point of the unit. This week we will be examining savings accounts, obtaining credit, and investing wisely.
All math classes have completed the basic multiplication units. It is imperative that your child has his or her multiplication facts mastered by the end of this year. Computation fluency will greatly benefit your child as they continue to learn about more math concepts!
